In the world of modern interior design, where special attention is paid to details, slats on the board are becoming more and more popular as an ornament and a functional decorative element. Mainly used to give character to a space, they allow you to introduce warmth, style and a unique atmosphere into the interior. Wall slats can completely change the look of any room, turning a flat wall into an interesting 3D arrangement, thus enlivening the space.

The variety of slats available on the market allows you to find the perfect solution tailored to your individual needs and preferences. In addition to the slats on the board, there is also the option of using slats mounted on felt, which provides an additional layer of acoustic insulation, and a free-standing version, which can serve as an original element of space division. The choice of the appropriate type of slats depends on the expected functionality as well as aesthetic preferences. Regardless of the type chosen, wall slats are a simple yet effective solution that allows for a quick and effective transformation of any flat surface.

Free-standing decorative slats

Free-standing decorative slats are a solution for those who value originality and functionality in space arrangement. They are distinguished primarily by the possibility of placing them freely in the room without the need to mount them to the wall, which makes them ideal for dividing the space with openwork walls or as an unconventional decorative element. During installation, however, you should pay attention to allocating the ideal distances between individual slats. The products should be installed using a measuring tape and a spirit level to mark the vertical, and spacers will be useful to mark the ideal distances.

Free-standing slats are an extremely versatile product that can be adapted to your needs with little work. Those of smaller sizes, depending on your needs, can be transformed into slats on a board or on felt, by installing strip by strip to the selected material. This method allows for great freedom in creating space, but it must be remembered that the final durability and quality of workmanship depend largely on the precision of installation.

Advantages of free-standing slats:

  • Can be used as a space divider without the need for permanent installation.
  • Great versatility of use depending on the user’s needs.
  • They do not require any interference with the structure of the walls, which is important in the case of rented apartments.
  • You can make them yourself from ready-made elements, available for purchase in popular construction stores.

Disadvantages of free-standing slats:

  • They may require more space in your home to be used effectively.
  • The stability of the structure depends on the quality of workmanship, method of assembly and materials used.
  • Longer installation time due to the need to determine the distance between all elements.
  • They may be less resistant to mechanical damage due to the lack of attachment to permanent structural elements.
  • Difficulty cleaning openwork elements.

What is lamel on felt?

Felt slats are a solution that combines aesthetics and functionality. They consist of vertical slats (lamellas) placed on a felt base, which distinguishes them in terms of appearance and acoustic properties. Felt slats are usually mounted on walls, and their installation is relatively simple – it requires appropriate preparation of the substrate and the use of a dedicated mounting system. The felt is available in both a rigid version – for installation on even, flat spaces, and a soft version – enabling installation on uneven and rounded surfaces. They improve acoustics and add warmth to interiors, but require regular cleaning and proper care to maintain their attractive appearance for longer.

Advantages of lamellas on felt:

  • Thanks to the use of felt, these slats reduce noise and echo in rooms much more effectively, positively affecting the acoustics.
  • Their installation is simple due to the possibility of purchasing ready-made elements with already designated distances, so they can be done by people without experience.
  • Possibility of installation with tape and mounting glue.
  • Possibility of installation on rounded surfaces.

Disadvantages of lamellas on felt:

  • Felt elements are much more likely to accumulate dust, and cleaning them may be problematic – it requires the use of a vacuum cleaner and a small brush intended for vacuuming small gaps.
  • Unlike other materials, felt may require specialized cleaning products for stains and more problematic soiling.
  • Felt is not an ideal material for use in places with high humidity, therefore felt lamellas should not be installed in rooms with high humidity.
  • Sensitivity to fading – Prolonged exposure to sunlight may cause colors to fade.

Lamellas on the board

Lamellas in this form are most often found on HDF boards. It is an elegant and modern decorative option used in interior design. Their uniqueness lies in the use of thin but durable wooden strips or wood-like materials, which are mounted on a strong and stable board, most often made of HDF. They are perfect as decorative wall elements in living rooms, bedrooms, offices and public places. Installing lamellas on an HDF board is relatively simple – it requires careful preparation of the surface and the use of appropriate assembly means, such as adhesives or hook systems.

Advantages of lamellas on the board:

  • The use of HDF board guarantees the durability of the entire structure and high resistance to everyday use.
  • Possibility of installation with a hook system, but also with mounting tape and glue.
  • Simple installation due to the possibility of purchasing ready-made elements with already designated distances between the lists, so it can be performed by people without experience.
  • Due to the flat surface, dust does not settle in the gaps between the rungs.
  • Thanks to the wide range of available options, wall slats can be adapted to the user’s individual needs and preferences, which allows you to create a unique interior.

Disadvantages of lamellas on the board:

  • Limited flexibility – Once installed, they can be difficult to remove without damaging the board or slats.
  • Due to the material used, they are not suitable for rooms with high humidity, such as bathrooms or kitchens.
  • Those made of real wood require regular maintenance.
  • Heavy product weight – When mounting on walls, you must ensure that the wall can support the additional weight.
  • Can only be mounted on flat surfaces.

Can lamellas replace acoustic panels?

Wall lamellas can significantly improve room acoustics by reducing echo and reverberation by absorbing sounds. This is especially important in large interiors or in a room that is to be used as a place for relaxation, work, e.g. in an office or study. The best acoustic properties have slats on felt, then slats on board, and finally free-standing slats.
