What to remember when creating an interior design with mouldings and stucco?
One of the most important factors is the style of our interior. If we are planning a glamour or modern classic arrangement, we can afford the “rich” option. In such interiors, both decorated mouldings and decorative rosettes accompanied by a glass chandelier, portals above the doors and decorative door frames will work well. All this should be incorporated into one, stylistically coherent aesthetic space. If we want to achieve a more subtle effect, minimalist profiles or single decorated stucco elements used as accents can work well. In more modest and calmer arrangements, it is worth focusing on simplicity or one expressive element that will create a “wow” effect in the room.

The consistency of the mouldings and mouldings with the rest of the interior is key. Here, we recommend creating your own mood board. It would seem that this is a completely unnecessary procedure, but this solution can be especially helpful for people who do not have a developed spatial imagination or for less experienced interior decorators. In this way, we will gather all the elements, finishes, textures, colors and shapes in one place. By putting them together, we will be able to tell at first glance whether all the elements match each other. A mood board can be created online, by downloading the elements that interest us from the manufacturers’ websites. You can use free, publicly available programs for this purpose, e.g. Canva. On the other hand, for fans of tangible solutions, you can create a physical version from samples, often available in stores.
Another element worth paying attention to is the functionality of the selected solutions. Stucco is aesthetic and its main role is to delight us with its beautiful appearance, but it can also be very practical. For example, floor mouldings should be durable to properly protect the wall from mechanical damage, and wall mouldings can be successfully used as a mask for unsightly pipes or crookedly painted walls on the ceiling line. You can also use stucco to aesthetically illuminate the interior or highlight selected areas, such as at the dressing table. However, before buying, it is worth checking the available solutions and technologies. An example are Mardom Decor products with LightGuard® technology, which allows the installation of LED strips with mouldings. Those on the floor can be a practical element by the stairs, illuminating a problematic space for movement, wall mouldings are good for decorating the wall and highlighting, for example, photos or paintings, and ceiling mouldings will create atmospheric lighting for spending time on long winter evenings.

The colours used in our interior are also very important. When choosing paint, it is worth checking its actual shade in the room in daylight. Paint a colour sample on the darkest and lightest part of the room to assess how it will look in your room. The texture of the wall also affects the reception of the colour – on a smooth surface it will be lighter, on a textured surface, e.g. with wallpaper, much darker. Each room can look completely different, using the same colour, so it is worth testing different options. The paint itself and its finish also matter – shiny colours seem cooler, and matte ones add warmth. If you want to add harmony to your interior design, we recommend avoiding pure, intense colours – interiors in whitened or grey colours look much more elegant.
The stucco itself and its color, as well as how it interacts with the color on the wall, are also of great importance. We especially recommend paying attention to this in the case of a large number of intense colors – such a mix can visually overwhelm our room. Here, it is worth choosing mouldings that are dedicated to painting. Those from Mardom Decor are covered with a matte primer that protects the surface, smoothes it and prepares it for covering with the lower color.

Go to the visualizerA highly aesthetic space is a space maintained in a monochromatic color palette. If you plan to go for effective minimalism, then mouldings painted in the same shade as the wall will work perfectly. Thanks to this, the mouldings will add an interesting three-dimensionality to the space, but will not overwhelm the room. You can also choose the opposite path and follow the principle of contrasts – using white mouldings on a dark wall or painting them black against a background of white or beige shades. The mouldings arranged in this way will be very visible. However, if you want to introduce more colors to the environment and you are not sure whether they will work together, you are guided by the rule of three colors and the 70/20/10 rule – 70 is the main color of the interior such as the floor and walls, 20 is furniture, and 10 accessories.
Mouldings and mouldings: Secrets to designing spaces full of style and comfort
Designing mouldings according to the scale and proportions of the interior is a key step to achieving harmony and aesthetics in the room. A very good practice is to draw the design on a scale on a piece of paper, which allows you to maintain proportions and imagine how the mouldings will look in our room. The next step is to reproduce 1:1 wall frames using masking tape. Thanks to this, we will see the actual dimensions of the mouldings and will be able to assess whether a given shape, dimensions or idea harmonizes with our interior. Such visualization helps to avoid mistakes and provides better adaptation of the design to a given space.
The dimensions and arrangement of the stucco are key to the architecture of our interior. Vertical, elongated frames can slim down the room, while large horizontal or square frames will lower it. In small rooms, we recommend using one stucco screen (it can be double or single), leaving free space around it. This will make the room seem larger. Avoid using several small frames in a very small area or creating entire wall compositions from many stucco elements, as too many decorations will overwhelm the space and make it look dull instead of elegant. In turn, in large, high rooms, you can afford more daring solutions – high ceiling and skirting boards, dark stucco wall paneling cutting the walls in half or decorative rosettes in large quantities on the ceiling and walls.
Another important element is building the right composition in the interior using stucco. We recommend a balanced, vertically symmetrical composition. It consists in the fact that after dividing the interior in half, in a given area, the left side perfectly corresponds to the right – in the size of the frames, their number, arrangement on the walls and shape. This is a procedure known already in classicist architecture, with the help of which manor houses were given nobility and elegance. Thanks to this, the interior will look clean and tidy, which will emphasize the aesthetics of the entire space. Introducing symmetry to our apartment is a guarantee that the space will be functional and aesthetic, conducive to spending everyday time surrounded by beauty and harmony.
Practical tips for selecting and using mouldings and mouldings
Aesthetics must go hand in hand with high quality. Modern mouldings are not only beautiful, but also durable and functional, thanks to which interiors look impeccable for many years, delighting with timeless design. When choosing mouldings, it is worth paying attention to the material from which they are made, to ensure their longevity and resistance to everyday use.
Mardom Decor stucco is produced from a proprietary blend of polymers with refiners. The extrusion method makes the proprietary PolyForce material dense, durable and resistant. The additional use of ScratchShield® technology strengthens the surface of the stucco, making it resistant to mechanical damage, such as scratches or impacts. This is particularly important in the case of floor strips, but also when designing public spaces. Thanks to this, we can enjoy both the aesthetics and practicality of interiors – at home or in public spaces.
PolyForce material is waterproof, so it does not swell or deform over time and with everyday use. The surface can be easily washed, which ensures cleanliness and hygiene. The strips are also resistant to UV radiation, which means that they do not yellow or discolour under the influence of light. This means that the aesthetics of the interior remain intact for many years.
Sustainable development and ecology are also very important aspects today. Mardom Decor mouldings are manufactured entirely in Poland from fully tested and safe, non-toxic raw materials. The mouldings are manufactured in a closed cycle and are recyclable. This ensures safety for employees, residents and the environment. By choosing Mardom Decor products, we do not have to give up aesthetics for the sake of ecology – on the contrary, we can enjoy beauty and functionality, while taking care of the planet.
